Laser & Assessments

Laser assessments are scheduled every 4th visit. When they complete 3 “cycles” they will be ready for an assessment. The purpose of the assessment is to determine their progress, and if their treatment intervals needs to be adjusted. The rule of thumb is: 2 weeks before their scheduled appointment they should see a rush of hair growth. This may not necessarily mean more hair, but could mean less hair, but just growing faster.

In the beginning the client will experience more growth then they’ve seen in-between sessions, but as the client moves closer to touch ups, the hair may remain heavily reduced but an increase of speed may be present.

The questions and what they mean

Number of treatments: Total number of treatments received

Treatment Frequency: when their last session was. DO NOT go based on their recommended intervals, we need to physically count back to see the exact amount of time that has passed to make an accurate assessment. Example: the recommended interval in their laser chart may say 8 weeks, but the client may have rebooked several times and the growth you are assessing is actually 12 weeks post their last visit. In this case you could write: 8 weeks (last tx 12 weeks ago)

Last shave: the last time the hair was removed. If they removed by another method other than shaving please specify. This will help us determine the length of hair and quantity of it.

Length of hair: we will categorize by - stubble, 1/4 inch, 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch, 1 inch, 1 inch +

*Prior to starting laser hair removal the length of a person’s hair will be approx be stubble - 1/4 inch after about 3-5 days of not shaving. 1 inch of hair growth on the body is usually a fully grown hair and has likely completed the anagen phase of growth.

Shaving Frequency: How often the client has to remove the hair to remain clean. If the client did not shave since the last treatment, please re-word the question by asking at what point was there noticeable hair growth. Please also clarify if the client is shaving out of habit, or if there is visible growth that needs to be removed. This will help us determine the rate of growth.

*Prior to starting laser hair removal a person may shave on average once every 3-5 days. Anything sooner than that is a faster than average speed of growth, and anything further than that is a slower than average speed of growth and may qualify for a longer interval.

Color: We will categorize by - Very light, Light, light-med, med-light, med-dark, dark-med, dark

Texture: We will categorize by - very fine, fine, fine-med, med-fine, med, med-coarse, coarse-med, coarse

Troubleshooting

When to keep the interval the same: if there has been an outburst of hair growth 2 weeks or more before their appointment

When to move the interval further apart: if there has not been an out burst of hair growth within the last 2 weeks before their appointment

When to move the intervals closer together: if there is consistently an outburst of hair 4 week or more before their appointment

If the client says there was no fallout and only continuous growth immediately after treatment or a rush of growth 2+ weeks post. The number of weeks it takes for the o ut trust to happen plus their current interval is what they growth pattern really is. For example, if the client was scheduled for an 8 week interval, had their treatment, did not see a fallout but had a burst of growth 2 weeks later that continuously kept growing, that means their last session should’ve been 10 weeks apart.

During the consultation

Undearms & Bikini typically start 6-8 weeks. If they shave further than the average shaving frequency (1 week or more) you can start then every 8 weeks

Face starts 4-6 weeks apart

All other areas 8 weeks apart

If you are assessing a client for the first time who has laser before we may consider choosing the longer interval if the growth pattern allows us.

Before & After Photos

Photos are mandatory at every assessment & consultation. Please do not take full shots of their Brazilian. We only need to see the top pelvic area, or the bikini line.

If the client forgot to leave a patch, please take the photo anyway, the follicles can still be seen when zoomed in.

Please make sure lighting is bright (turning off the lights in the room makes the lighting from the lamp more even.
